The Season Ahead- CW Edition!

Last week I chatted about January goal setting and how cricket gets in the way of so many plans and goals we try and make.

Softball Summer
Softball Summer

It was SO nice to hear your thoughts- and honestly, it made me feel so much less alone in finding it difficult to even plan a holiday for 2026

Update: nothing’s booked yet.. but we are working on our compromises haha!

So I thought it would be a good opportunity to share my goals and plans for The Cricket Widow Club this year- and use you as my muse to run things by you and see what you think.

Basically, for me, I want to bring us together in as many ways as I can. To create things that make even just one of you think:

“You know what.. I would LOVE to do that.”

And most of all, to give you things to look forward to this summer

The Cricket Widow Club Community (Our Big Group Chat)

Firstly, I’ve been working on our Cricket Widow Club Skool community page, where we can share, interact, and support each other.

I love, love, LOVE chatting to you all- hearing your silly stories, your meaningful moments, and all the relatable stuff. It’s genuinely been one of the biggest things that’s helped me enjoy the season more.

And I don’t want to keep that to myself. I want this to be something we can all benefit from.

You don’t have to be a big poster- you can just read. And then one day you might think, “Hell yeah, that’s me.”

It’s basically a big group chat for cricket widows. A place to laugh, vent, share, and realise you are absolutely not alone in this. Because trust me- you’re going to read things and think, wow, it’s not just me.

Otley Run Fun!
Otley Run Fun!

Cricket Widow Otley Run 2.0

The Cricket Widow Otley Run 2.0 is happening!!

Last year, I was genuinely brought to tears (even thinking about it now makes me fill up ) by the kindness, togetherness and sense of belonging that a bunch of strangers brought.

It was one of my absolute favourite days of the year- and one I can confidently say HAS to happen again. It’s almost a non-negotiable Saturday fixture for cricket widows in the summer.

No dates just yet, but it is in the planning.. and it is one not to miss!!

Cricket Widow Hike & Lunch- Lake District

Hike and lunch anyone?
Hike and lunch anyone?

I was chatting to a cricket widow from the Lake District last year, and she told me that the cricket widows at their club go for a hike and lunch on a Saturday while the lads play.

I fell in LOVE with this idea.

This is the ultimate not missing out attitude. Using the community of girls we’ve got and doing our own thing- together.

So.. I’ve been in touch. And we’re hoping to do a Cricket Widow Hike & Lunch in the heart of the Lake District.

All welcome. Dogs too!

And even if the rain pours.. the covers will go on and we will NOT let it dampen our spirits!

Cricket Widow Softball Tournaments

Now for the competitive stuff.. because let’s face it- I know we’ve all got that competitive streak, especially when handed a cricket bat

I’m looking at running Cricket Widow Softball Tournaments around the country.

These would be fun tournament days where you could enter your club team and have a full day of laughs, chaos and good vibes.

We could also have a combined team on the day for girls who don’t have a softball team at their club- the CW All Stars (tell me that’s not a vibe! ).

I've out a few feelers out to see what the current status is of softball cricket teams across the country- and honestly, I was so encouraged by what came back..

From your responses:

  • 60% of you already have a softball team

  • 8% of the remaining 40% said you’re hoping to start one this year

Which is SO positive!

I’m looking for clubs across the country who would love to host and be a venue. I’d love to cover every postcode- but let’s be real, that’s near on impossible- so I’m looking for a few key locations to spread them out.

If this sounds like something your club would be up for, I'd LOVE you to throw your club's name in the hat. We have a CW Softball Discussion in the Skool community, so drop your clubs name in there if your club would be interested in hosting.

A Nationwide Cricket Widow Day

I’ve also been playing with an idea for a Nationwide Cricket Widow Day- a day where we try to get clubs across the country involved in prioritising and celebrating their cricket widows.

Imagine it.. one chosen date where clubs show a bit of extra love to the girls who are always there supporting. Maybe it’s a welcome drink, a reserved CW table, a little perk at the bar, or just a simple thank you (okay, maybe not two-for-one Prosecco.. but I’m not saying no either!).

The idea would be that I help from afar, but you approach your own club committee and see if they’d be up for being part of it once I have set a date. I honestly think it could be such a magical way to bring cricket widows together at your own club- especially for girls who are new, feeling unsure, or who just deserve a day where they’re looked after a little more.

And let’s be honest.. a day where you don’t have to organise teas would be a dream

Do you think your club would get involved in something like this?!

Couples Cricket- Cricket Widow + Cricketer Team Up

This is the one I REALLY want your thoughts on..

I’ve had an idea for a while now that combines cricket AND quality time with our cricketer (which will take ZERO persuading!).

A Pairs Tournament- you and your cricketer enter as a pair.

You’d be placed into mixed teams with other cricket widows and cricketers. We’d play it like softball / pairs cricket:

  • You bat with your partner (I’ll let you decide who hogs the strike )

  • One of you bowls while the other keeps

  • Fielders rotate around

It’s early days on the logistics (and yes, we may need some constraints on the cricketers.. wrong-handed batting anyone?), but imagine a Friday night in the summer with:

  • Cricket

  • Food & drinks

  • Family-friendly atmosphere

  • Proper CW Club vibes

  • And your cricketer on the non-strikers end

Would you and your cricketer be up for something like this?

These Are Just the Beginning

All of these are very much initial plans at the moment- but I’m honestly hoping for a BIG year for The Cricket Widow Club, with lots going on and plenty for you all to get involved in.

Nothing is fully locked in yet, and that’s on purpose.. because I want this to be shaped by you. What you want. What works for you. What would genuinely make your cricket season better.

So if you’re reading this thinking, “I’d LOVE that” or “why haven’t we got this at our club?”- tell me. Join our Skool Community. Comment. Bring your ideas.

My goal is simple: to make this season feel less lonely, more fun, and full of things that are just for us!
